Why was Soway created?

In response to the growing demand for very high sun protection, Marie-Claire Castagné decided to specialise in UV- and infrared-protective hats.

The company is based in her home town, La Baule, in the Loire-Atlantique region.

Through meetings with dermatologists and other skin specialists, Marie-Claire realised that something was missing from the sun protection market: a lightweight hat that offered very high sun protection and would stay cool in the sun. We all know that hats protect from the sun, but they do not all protect in the same way, just as not all sun creams have the same sun protection factor.

Marie-Claire’s goal, supported by her husband and later her daughter, was therefore to create the most protective hat possible. However, a protective hat often means a hat that keeps you warm and that you end up taking off because it is heavy (due to the very tight weave required to achieve this high level of protection).

French Soway® technology

The components of Soway products are French (the base material, fabric, ribbons, etc.), the technical development is also carried out in France, and manufacturing takes place in Portugal by a company specialising in the production of high-end hats.

The high level of sun protection and the comfort of its hats have enabled the Soway® brand to be a Partner of Dermatology Congresses since 2014.
